Court cases
This section contains records of legal papers and court proceedings involving associates of Royal Rife. Three groups of documents are currently included below: Beam Rays Inc. corporate records, and two different court cases from 1939.
Beam Rays Inc. corporate records
Beam Rays Inc. is the company that manufactured a model of a plasma ray device designed by Philip Hoyland, who initially worked for Dr. Royal Rife, Dr. Milbank Johnson, and later for Beam Rays Inc. The company was derived from a predecessor corporate shell originally formed in November 1935 under the name Aero Reserve School-Western Division Inc.
Aero Reserve School went through two subsequent name changes: the first time to United Polytechnical Institute Inc. in August 1937; and the second time to Beam Rays Inc. in June 1938. Neither of the two predecessor companies had any formal relationship with Dr. Royal Rife, or the manufacture of plasma ray devices. We offer here for historical documentation, the corporate papers for all three companies in date order. They are relevant to the Hoyland vs. Beam Rays Inc. lawsuit filed in January 1939.

1939 lawsuit: Hoyland vs. Beam Rays, Inc.
In late January 1939 Philip Hoyland, a radio technician working for Beam Rays Inc., filed a civil lawsuit against the company and its directors in San Diego Superior Court. Beam Rays Inc. was formed in mid-1938 to manufacture plasma ray frequency devices. The complaint initially asked that the company be placed in receivership, which was denied by the court. The remaining charges went to trial in June 1939, and Hoyland’s lawsuit ultimately failed. There are numerous documents associated with this case, many of which have never been publicly available. They are listed in date order.

1939 lawsuit: Blewett-Gonin-Parsons vs. Beam Rays Inc. vs. Hoyland
On 3 May 1939, three persons from England also filed a complaint against Beam Rays Inc. in the San Diego Superior Court. Wm. Blewett, Dr. Bertram Gonin, and Howard Parsons were a London group that entered into a contract with Beam Rays to sell their plasma ray devices. The group sued for breach of contract. In response, Beam Rays Inc. filed a cross-complaint against Philip Hoyland. The case was eventually dismissed in 1952 for lack of action. Due to poor quality of the original copies, a transcript of the documents is included.
